That's a deep question. The only example that comes to mind involved Kit Carson. He was apprenticed to, I think, a blacksmith in Missouri, and ran away. The man to whom he was apprenticed posted a reward in the local newspaper for his return, but Kit had already gone west. When did they do away with debtor's prison? Stan
