Well, I've mever thought I'd be defending the idea that Lee's '62 entry into Maryland was anything but an invasion. Even though the Confederacy wanted the Marylanders to join in throwing out the Union forces, at act of 'liberation', I've never known any act of liberation that did not involving fighting.
