I can't gives the citation at this time, but there also were reports on the OR's of Union Officers in the Trans Mississippi reporting Confederate Pickets with both black and white soldiers manning the posts.

It was pretty common knowledges in the OR's, from Fredrick Douglas on down, that Blacks served in combat roles in the Confederate Army, and not in segregated Units as in the Union Army. Many records and reports were left out of the Official Records when they were originally compiled. I wonder what new information the 100 volumes of supplements to the OR's published a few years back will be revealed once that information becomes more accessible and filters down to the "Nuts and Bolts" researchers?
