Re: Union Reports Of Black Confederates...in comba

I've written about this before but is related to this subject.

Hundreds of free blacks in New Orleans came out to fight for General Andrew Jackson during the New Orleans campaign of 1814-15. They volunteered to stand shoulder to shoulder with slave owners to fight the British who were raiding all along the American coast freeing slaves. The free black companies held near the center of the line and contributed highly in the outcome of the final battle.

[New] Jordan Noble, a black drummer at the Battle of New Orleans; served as a drummer in the Mexican War; and went on to become a captain in the Louisiana (Confederate) Militia, recruiting black soldiers into his company, (Planche Guards), Louisiana Militia. He later served as a Union captain in company C, 7th Regiment, Louisiana Infantry (Colored).
