George, I would have to look up the name again, But the mans Great Grandson is a member of the SCV and was at the New Orleans convention in 2006.

According to that Grandson he was a refuge from the Shanghai rebellion (he was on the losing side) and excaped to America (California that is). He did prospecting and finally worked his way to Texas where he was when that State seceded. When the 2nd Texas Lancers/24th Texas Cavalry was recruiting he joined up. And the rest is history.

As you know the 24th Texas Cavalry (dismounted) was captured at Arkansas Post, Jan 11, 1863, and spent time up north before being exchanged at City Point Virginia.
