Keith, I think you might be off a few decades there. In 1921 the Marine Corps (quite a few southerners there) held maneuvers in the Wilderness and Brigadier General Smedley Darlington Butler hda the box dug up and examined. He found the arm, had it replaced in a metal box and reburied. He also had a broze plague placed on the stone, this has been removed by the Park Service.
