Most of the NPS in and around Petersburg know Ashleigh quite well and several refer to him, affectionately or not, as "Moody". The SCV and the NPS have always been at odds when it comes to Petersburg it seems. I'm sure with your credentials George, Ashleigh will be glad to talk to you. We here in and around the Richmond-Petersburg area are very familiar with S.H.A.P.E.

You know I have expressed sentiments in the past on this board concerning an agenda that the NPS has. Here are two great examples. The first weekend of June marks the anniversary of the Battle of Gaines Mill. There is always a living history demonstration at the Cold Harbor Battlefield Visitors Center. Sometimes there are Federal reenactors, sometimes there are Confederate. But funny thing is when there are Confederate reenactors they display NO FLAGS. Why? They are not allowed to. Two years ago the new museum at Tredegar (The National Civil War Museum) had a living history program. One of the highlights was an artillery demonstration by a local unit that to my knowledge will not galvanize (go blue). On that weekend their gun crew was evenly split with Federal and Confederate impressions. They even had one black man represented. Federal of course.

On the weekend of the Gaines Mill anniversary you can always find me and my gun crew and my compatriots from The Cold Harbor Guards, Camp 1764, SCV on private property across the road from The Garthright House. We like to be on hand to lend our side to any discussion and to add to the atmosphere of the twilight battlefield "ghost tour" We always save our best rounds for dusk.
