T.R. ........ fascinating reports. Hopewell, Virginia was a large manufacturing facility for Dupont gunpowder in the early to mid 1900s. Interesting irony, just north of Hopewell on Jefferson Davis Highway (US Route 1) is Dupont's Spruance Plant. Their main claim to fame is Nomex fiber technology, fire resistant cloth, and Kevlar, blast and bullet protective/proof materials. I guess Dupont sought protection from there own product. I've always found this fact of interest too...Dupont made big news just a few years back when they prohibited the display of Confederate symbols, especially the battleflag on their property. (at one short time state issued SCV vehicle license plates had to be covered while on their property [illegal]. Confederate soldiers graves are actually located on this Spruance Plant property. They did however proudly display in their visitors welcome area flags from Japan, Germany, and The Soviet Union. In addition E.I. Dupont is the main benefactor and partial owner of Stratford Hall, Robert E. Lee's boyhood home. And don't forget who the Nobel Prize is named for.
