Why were they limited to just the Border states? Why were there no Unionist elected in the Southern states? Certainly there were many elected persons of strong influence in the Southern States, such as in my state of Arkansas, who were very Pro Union prior to Lincoln call for 75,000 volunteers, and even after. Many of them changed their stance like Sterling Price, but not all of them. The vote for secession in any of the three Arkansas Convention was ever 100%.
Why was West Virginia an Unconditional Unionist State, instead of being Republican, when they seceeded and disolved their Union with their own parent state of Virginia?
If this Unionist movement involved 5 States then it was a significant political voting block in the United States Congress. And why only the Border States and West Virginia? Were there no Unionist in the Northern States? All of their delegates were either Democrat or Republican.
