Thank you Jamie. Is there any way to know the circumstances in which Lt. Harris was involved that caused his men to vote to give him the medal of honor? He was the Commanding Officer of Co. C. Apparently, he was will liked because he was elected 2nd Lt. just a few weeks after he enlisted.

In the family history which I am using as a basis to assist me in expanding the history. There is a one sentence for his entire Civil War record. "He lost an arm in the Civil War". Evidently the history I am using was not researched very well concerning the individual.s military service.

Several of the family were veterans of the American Revolution, The War of 1812, the Civil War, Spanish-American War, WWI, and WWII. These men ranged from 12-13 year old lads held all of the various ranks up to and including Generals. Based upon their early military service they received very large land grants scattered over much of the east, south, and west.

I have been researching this family for almost 15 years and I have enjoyed every minute. It is amazing at the information that is available on the Civil War web sites and the beauty of it, is how everyone is so willing to share their expertise.
