Should we be giving awards by todays standards or the standards of when the event occured? I personally know too many veterans that have gotten awards decades after the fact, no records, no eye witnesses, only the backing of some politician or local leader who pressures the authorities to give the award. These things usually are started by the veterans themselves or their families not from peers within the military from where it should come. There are delluded old veterans and family members willing to glorify and stretch the truth.
