Because we have allowed the real story of the southern states secession to be highjacked and condensed into the "10 second sound bite" that that war was solely over slavery, this type of revisionist history will never end. The consequence are that we lose the real lesson to be learned, that distrust of an overpowering government that does not do its duties, but pursues it ot own course, will result in a civil revolut that may grow into another conflict within this country. Such has always been the pattern throughout the history of a freedom loving people, to resist an overreaching government.
