No, there really is no limit as to how many days we can 'work'. I can work each of the 180 days in the school year but I also have the option of 'do not call' or 'turn down' assignments. While it has been a good thing for me especially since hubby's going through chemo, I'd think militia men didn't get that option. They'd probably get into a little trouble if they did not show up if called and not have a very good reason or a note from their Mom. :)

We see cases where a regular soldier is 'absent' at roll call or even listed as AWOL only to find they had a good excuse. Taken prisoner is a very good excuse. I don't know. Maybe there were cases of some militia being told to go hunt down a rabid dog or something but it was never recorded. The Militia Man and/or his family may deem that to be 'soldiering'. It's all in the individual's story. Right or wrong if you want to be technical, they may have embellished things because the facts left them a bit short on 'glory'.
