Re: New PBS Civil War Documentary Coming

Jim, I still have a lot to learn about Poison Springs, but I have studied the Battle of Jenkins Ferry because I have an ancestor who died in the Princeton field hospital. The Union Army had escaped across the other side of the Saline River.

Anyway, on page 132 of "All Cut to Pieces and Gone to Hell" is a description of Confederate cavalry riding up to the hospital where some wounded Federal soldiers were treated, including nine from the 2nd Kansas. "One Rebel, dressed as an officer, drew his revolver and shot three wounded niggers who lay in the yard". The black soldiers were given medical treatment outside and evidently easier to find. Anyway, a PBS mockumentary would have reported it as a massacre without any context.
