Re: Is this Gen. A.P. Hill?
In Response To: Re: Is this Gen. A.P. Hill? ()

RD. One other question regarding the horse in this Tintype that the author of two books pointed out to me as why the image probably isnt Hill. which by the way, so far everything that he pointed too you have been able to provide a logical and authorative responce. which is why I am back to where I have been for 7 years now. it probably is Hill but I can't conclusively prove it!
anyway, if this Image is of Hill, then it had to have been taken between January 1865 and April 2nd '65 when he was killed. the last known image taken of Hill and atributed to fall of 1864, showing the premature greying in the beard and receeding sideburns etc, this man looks most identical to that image. with the exception of the sideburns which I have found information already that he was known to have only a goatee and mustache but those images were early war not later. So that means for the resemblence to hold true this image had to be between those months of Januray 65 and March 65 when he was known to be sick and on furlough and while the Army was emcamped around Petersburg.
the other "expert" who I was referring too, indicated that this image shows a horse having "no coat of hair" the the horse appears to be showing a slick coat after shedding which would be indicative of late spring, summer/fall time frame. Is there anything that you can pick out which would tell you if this image could be taken in march time frame based on the horse?
thanks
Sam
