Growing up hearing of these things, I really didn't get the scope of it. It was before 'me' after all. I knew of the batteries at the forts and heard all about the Coastal Watch. It wasn't til I saw that movie with Jonathan Winters, The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming, and I pictured people here in town running around with helmets and sirens that got me. I know it was serious at the time but there were those stories of 'shore visits' going round too. ;)
