Re: Some ideas for visiting the Archives in DC

Thanks for letting me know about the Plexiglas. I’ll be sure to ask for it the next time I’m at the Archives, if I’m going to be taking pictures of any more documents. Thanks for the history about General Ainsworth and the CMSRs, too! I’m not sure about the Union records, but included in many of the envelopes holding the pre-printed Confederate CMSR cards (mainly for officers) are original Confederate documents from the 1860s (included are items such as letters, special orders, claims for horses killed during the war, forage requisitions, special requisitions, etc.), which are signed by or pertain to the Confederate soldiers these documents are filed with. If you're interested, contact me at jedrowe@bellsouth.net and I'll send you pictures I took of some of these original documents.

As far as the Archives charging $.25 for a digital copy saved onto a flash drive, I’m probably wrong about that. I printed out several hard copies of some documents before switching over to saving them digitally onto my flash drive and I just assumed I was still being charged $.25 per digital copy, too, since I had to use my researcher’s card to get the copier to work.
