Re: Some ideas for visiting the Archives in DC

Dennis - I’m pretty sure the Confederate documents I photographed are originals, not photostatted copies. As far as I know, the National Archives is the only repository having these original records, too, not any of the Southern states archives. States have copies of most of the documents the National Archives has, but on microfilm only. The National Archives has some Civil War records that the states do not have, such as Confederate surrender muster rolls and Confederate inspection reports, to name a couple. The National Archives also has the original muster rolls of regiments, battalions, etc. for the CSA. I know this for a fact, because years ago I was allowed to view the original muster rolls for Cobb’s Legion Cavalry Battalion in room 203. The pages the original muster rolls were recorded (hand written) on are huge.
