Does anyone know where I could find South Carolina conscription records? I'm looking for information on William Wade Pitts, who was conscripted from either the Edgefield or Orangeburg areas. I have one record indicated that he was assigned as a nurse at Cairns Hospital in Columbus, Georgia by order of Major Melton. I believe this to be Maj. C.D. Melton, who was commandant of conscripts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
