The South Carolina in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Need help - Confederate grave site

Don't waste your time going to the Lexington County Library. They have virtually no Civil War Resorces, and no original materal, such as Compiled Service Records, etc. Also, the South Carolina Room at the Richland County Libraryis pretty much of a waste. Fred's advise to go to the Archives is well taken. If it is more suitable, the South Carolina Room at the Greenville County Library, though a little farther off, has the Compiled Serivce records for S. C., N. C. and Georgia, has a reasonably good newspaper selection on microfilm, and a very good genealogical section (far better than the Archives). It is much more complete than the South Carolina Room at the Charleston County Library (unless you are looking for death records for the city of Charleston). The hours at Greenville are more user friendly than either Archives or Charleston.
