The South Caroliniana Library on the USC campus has a lot of genealogical material. Parking can be an issue, but I had great luck one Saturday when I got there right before 9:AM - the college kids are not even rolling over at 9:00AM =).
They have an on-line search function but it is not the best. For instance, I discovered in a roundabout way they had a photo of one of my ancestors, but it does not show up at all when I put in the surname in their search engine.
The other thing about the library is they are not helpful at all! In fact, they are downright nasty! I have not spoken to anyone who has had a good experience with them. And whatever you do, don't let them know you have searched on-line. I told one fellow that and for some reason he took an attitude and did not even tell me about a card catalogue by name they had that isn't on-line!
(Before someone jumps all over me, I am a USC graduate and contribute to the University every year!)
With all the foregoing, I would still suggest that you check out their resources. For my family, they had an 1820 letter; 2 genealogy books; the obituary of one of my ancestors; a receipt for goods from the Continental army; and a picture of a Civil War ancestor.
So, I would suggest that you cop your own attitude (I graduated from a Lexington County High School, so I know you can do it!) and go pay them a visit.
If the link does not work, type in The South Caroliniana in any search engine.
