10th SC Vols Company H
I am searching for any information on Company H Williamsburg Volunteers during the Battle of Stones River Murfreesboro.
Captain J.R. Nettles was killed in the battle. Where was he from. Who was his family? How did he become a Captain at 22yrs old.
My Uncles Reuben Whitfield Kirby and James Thomas Kirby from Sumter/Darlington District and there cousin Samuel Kirby went to Georgetown on the 19th of July 1861 to Volunteer in Nettles Company. I am wondering what was the connection for voluntering with Nettles Co at Camp Marion.
Reuben W Kirby was gun shot on Dec 31 during the battle. It was reported he was left in the battlefield and taken prisoner. He died of his wound January 23 1863. Im guessing he was in an unmarked grave and buried in Evergreen Cemetary.
Any info on this company or men would be appreciated.
