My opinion:
Longstreet was self-serving, had greatly inflated opinions of himself, and because of these opinions was reluctant to accept direction from other authority.
(If the Lord had not taken Jackson from us when He did, there would not have been a Gettysburg, and Longstreet's foot-dragging there would be a moot point.)
