Mr. Hodge, I appreciate your quick response and information. I am thankful that you are a professional historian and that you are working on a history of the 39th Georgia. It is a mystery in regards to my ancestor. I checked Tennesseans in the Civil War, and I copied the 5th Tenn records. I found William Tiptons in several units. I have obtained Military records on them but cannot determine if my Wiliam Tipton was one of them. The W.H. in Ashby's 2nd Calvary, which contained the 5th Tenn Battalion, may possibly have been him. Did any members of the unit orginally live in North Georgia or Eastern Tenn in the Cades Cove area?
I am a Civil War reenactor and if you ever have an event regarding the 39th Georgia, please let me know!
