Gerald, thank you! I am aware they are two separate units.
The 5th Bn become part of Asby's 2nd. The 5th was a full regiment on its own, in separate commands. I found Tiptons in both 5th Tennessee units. Very confusing since I don't know which William and other Tiptons are related. Northwest Georgia, Southwest North Carolina and East Tennesee were full of Tiptons at that time. My ancestor was part of a migration of Gilmer County residents to Arkansas. They settled in Searcy County, Arkansas in 1871. This ancestor left a very difficult trail to follow. I trust your judgement regarding the reenactors!
