James,

Thanks so much for the info. I've about concluded my James Carroll is one Civil War Vet among my ancestors I won't learn much about. All I know is He didn't survive. The fact that his widow didn't draw or as far as I can tell apply for a pension could be a clue he served in a " irregular " unit like the East Tenn National Guard. I would think those men were from counties bordering on North Carolina wouldn't you ? My James Carroll was from Sullivan County. " little Confederacy " as it was known to Union folks in upper East Tenn. Could be on his way to Kentucky he hooked up with Capt. Bryson and his men. My grandmother ( James was her maternal grandfather ) was a typical East Tenn. Republican. Her Paternal grandfather was in the Union 8th Tenn. Cav. This leads me to think he fought somewhere for the yanks. Then again, if I go by politics bout all the Carroll descendants are Democrats !!!! You mentioned a James K. Morrow did he by any chance come over from the rebels ? A land ancestor, LUCY LAND was the 2nd wife of a James Morrow from Washington County Tenn but I have him in the Confederate 60th Tn. If not the same is their any connection ?

Thanks again for your interest and kind assistance

Glenn Land
