The Bewleys are still around There was on the Nolichucky River in Greene County a community known as Bewley's Chapel. Although Johnson was a Democrat and a slave holder he was a passionate Unionist. The Beuley/Bewley spelling suggests part of the family was union and part sucesh.
Bewley lived near my Hale ancestors they were Unionists 3 brothers and 2 first cousins were in the 1st Tennessee Cav US. The Hale's lived at Bewley's after the war. My ggf Dean from Warrensburg was conscripted into the 61st Mtd Inf. under command of Col. John G Rose, in John Crawford Vaughn's Brigade. Dean was made POW at Big Black River Mississippi 100 men from the 61st took the oath and enlisted in the 8th Tenn Cav US. returned to Tennessee and fought against Vaughn's brigade up until Jeff Davis' capture.
On my 61st roster I show Capt Wm Bewley, Lt C F Bewley, and Pvt John Bewley all in Co I. C F is also listed as C T Beuley Lt. in Co. I.
Robertson commanded artillery from Shiloh to Atlanta wounded in 1864 leading Cavalry. The elder Robertson commanded Hood's Texas Brigade at Fredricksburg and Gettysburg and after Chickamauga returned to Texas in command of reserves. They are buried at Hillsboro.
