Gentlemen,

Let me spin this one on you.

The 42nd Alabama was part of Moore's Brigade, Cheatham's Division. They fought at the Battle of Lookout Mountain. It is very likely that he was captured at Lookout Mountain and because of his age been released by the Federals.

I know from my quick read of them, the regiment was one of the Vicksburg regiments recently paroled. They were in pitiful shape at Lookout Mountain as far as food, equipment, arms, ammunition, etc. Having one "card" in the CMSR's is not unheard of and especially if little of the regiment's original records survived and depending on how long the soldier served.

Those are my thoughts.

Respectfully,
