Thank you for posting this informaion about Colonel Heiman. Do you have any related materials that would indicate when he actually assumed command of this brigade?

I believe the brigade may have been initially intended for Gen Gregg of the 7th Texas, but he was temporarily assigned to replace Tilghman in charge of the exchanged prisoners camp at Jackson, Mississippi. Gregg did take over the brigade soon after Heiman's death, with Col Farquharson of the 41st Tenn having interim command.

I have searched long and hard for more detailed information about the reorganization of these exchanged regiments in the several weeks following their release at Vicksburg in September 1862. It appears there was a delay until Nov. 10, in the "official" exchange of some of the units [such as Heiman's regiment as well as others in that brigade].
