Re: General Order on the Death of Col. Heiman

Greg,

This is a great find, and certainly adds to my particular study of the exchanged regiments.

For the last several years, my primary research focus has been on Trans Miss operations. But I am always on the search for information about the exchanged units during the fall of 1862. It is easy for me to get caught up in the "what if" scenario had Van Dorn waited on these units to be added to his army before he attempted to take Corinth in October.

The 50th Tenn was indeed a part of Heiman's/Gregg's brigade and usually consolidated with the 51st, and often the 1st battalion.

There were multiple consolidations and re-consolidations of most of the exchanged regiments, and this continued as the individual regiments attempted to recruit their numbers after the ordeal of prison.

This continuing process of regimental consolidations makes it difficult to determine "who's who" at a given time, and that is what my study of the several units is all about.
