Danny,

This is an interesting "what if", of which, I know little. I am very familiar with the battles of Iuka and Corinth, but have never thought about a large number of additional troops being available with a short delay. I would presume the exchanged troops were primarily those captured at Forts Henry and Donelson in March '62. Is that correct and did the exchanged troops include any additional units from other battles/sieges? How many men were exchanged? When did these men arrive at Vicksburg?

Any additional details you can provide regarding these exchanged troops would be of interest.
