Alan Pitts:
I hope you will excuse me, this is the first opportunity I have had to read and respond to your excellent message on the command of Buford and Forrest with the Kentucky Brigade at the last battle of the war. Your message is very clear and complete. It is the first time I can visualize the last battles of the Kentucky Brigade under Crossland and also Forrest. I believe it is the first and only defeat of the Forrest command since my ancestors were assigned to the Forrest Cavalry Corps in March of 1864 and as I mentioned before, who knows what may have happened if the entire Forrest command would have assembled prior to facing the Wilson troops. It probably would have been the largest cavalry battle of the war.
Thank you ( 7/18/05)
