Saunders: I do not have a lot of information on Col. Jones, who I believe was Warner Paul Jones. He raised a company in Lake County, Tn, that crossed the Mississippi and entered service in the 1st Division, Missouri State Guard, as Company G, 1st Infantry Regiment, in late July, 1861. It is likely that his company joined the 1st Infantry at New Madrid, Missouri. The following September, while encamped at Belmont, across the river from Columbus, Kentucky, nearly the entire company transferred to the Confederate Army, and was eventually assigned as Company G, 33rd Tennessee Infantry Regiment. Somewhere in my notes I have a reference to his obituary in a couple of contemporary newspapers. I will attempt to find that information and post it here.
