Hi folks,

You may or may not know, but your webmaster is an old Tennesseean who lived for many years in Whitehaven, Memphis and Germantown, TN. I relocated to Houston, TX in 1996.

When I was a teenager, I worked for my Dad, in the Summer, at Ridgeway Country Club, where he was the Golf Course Superintendent. It just so happens that I was given a job to find what are called "quick couplers" or manual sprinkler head attachments in the irrigation system. These "quick couplers" were made of brass and aluminum and were used to let you access the water lines to connect a hose or a manual sprinkler, in case, the automatic sprinklers were not working. During this time, I was an owner of a metal detector and so I brought my metal detector to work to find these "quick couplers" which had become overgrown with grass or had sunken in the dirt/mud. It worked like a charm, but just by chance, I left the metal detector "on" while I was walking from the location of one quick couple to another. I got a reading, so curiousity getting the best of me, I dug up a .36 round ball. I left my metal detector on a little more, if you know what I mean and started relic hunting on #2 fairway of the golf course. I subsequently discovered several more pistol rounds including a .44 cal. conical bullet and a .54 cal rifle/carbine 3-ring minie ball. After goofing off from work for about an hour, I had accummulated a pocketful of this stuff. I never again relic hunted on the property and I strongly advise anyone reading this NOT to trespass on the property or relic hunt there.

What I want to know is, what action or actions occurred at Byhalia or Bailey Station, which is probably the more accurate location of this site? I know their was a rearguard action during Sturgis' retreat after Brice's Crossroads at Bailey Station, but can anyone think of any other possibilities?

Jim
