I have three ancestors who served in the 6th TN. Inf. One Allen H. Young Company I, died April 7th, the second day of the battle of Shiloh.
His brother & my 3rd great grandfather Moody Young company I, served from May 23 1861 until Dec. 1864 according to the 1890 veteran census.
Both men's records are very short. Moody Young's records consists of only a single page. Allen's of the same single page & one other listing his date of death.
I have been puzzled by the small service record of Moody. If he served to Dec. 1864 his record should be larger. I believe that the remainder of his service record was lost or destroyed during or after the war.
It is noted in Tennesseans In The Civil War that several companies reported the loss of their company records during the battle of Shiloh.
I had another ancestor, Drury Brock, serve in the 6th from company L, his record is more complete.
Do you know what company your gg grandfather was in? Did he survive the war?
