Re: Confederate Burials At Emory & Henry College

The cemetery list for Emory and Henry Cemetery is on line. Emory and Henry College is in southwestern Virginia. Emory College is completely separate, (now University) started out as a small Methodist school in Oxford, Georgia, right next door to Madison, about 35 miles east of Atlanta. During the Atlanta Campaign, the college buildings were used as a Confederate hospital, Oxford being on the Georgia Railroad form Atlanta to Augusta. There is a small Confederate cemetery on the campus of the school, with maybe 15-20 graves. I think all are marked, or at least there are no unknowns, if I recall correctly. When the Candlers got rich off of Coca Cola, they endowed the school, and it was moved to Decatur, just east of Atlanta. I believe that Emory still operates the Oxford campus as a satellite campus, or maybe for an honors program (I hope someone will correct me on this.) I am embarrased that I cannot put my hands on the inventory of the Oxford/Emory Confederate cemetery. Maybe someone else can help.
