Fort Donelson wounded question

My GGG-grandfather Edward Hudson (Hutson)26th Tn inf. CSA was shot in the hip on Feb. 15 at Fort Don. He was not captured. The next card in his file after the battle says- his name appears on muster roll of a detachment of the 26th that escaped capture-to Apr. 30 1862 station Knoxville Tn. He is then listed transfered to 3rd Confederate Cav. Howards Batt.- G.C Sandusky co. H. then says transfered to cavaley Ser. while regt. in prison transfered back to former comd. Feb. 20 1863 by order of Gen. Bragg.

My question is were there ways to send him out to a hospital or did he escape with Forrest? Is there any way to ever know? Any hospital list? I think he was positioned near Forrest, but this might not matter. I have found where I think he he is buried and am going to order a headstone for him and I would like to get a good time line of his service...Thanks for any help and sorry so long a post! Bubba
