Re: Fort Donelson wounded question
In Response To: Fort Donelson wounded question ()

Wounded Confederate soldiers at Fort Donelson were shipped up the Cumberland River to hospitals at Clarksville and Nashville up to the time the last steamboat left Dover before the surrender. Someone shot in the hip would not have been able to walk or ride out on his own. The steamboat "Runyan" was one of the boats transporting wounded soldiers from Fort Donelson upriver. It left Dover with a 293 wounded solders at 8:30 Saturday night, February 15, 1862. A complete list of the wounded giving company and regiment was made and given to the surgeons. This list was probably lost. There were several deaths among the wounded on the way up river.
