Yes, indeed the former prisoners aboard the Sultanna came from both Andersonville and Camp Cahaba. The Sultanna herself was a somewhat new ship built in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1863. Because the Sultanna was being paid per man by the government she was much overloaded. Mix that with the strong currents from the recent spring rains and heading up river she was an accident waiting to happen. More people died on the Sultanna then did the Titanic in 1912. One of the last living survivors of the Sultanna died in the 1930's.
