Hi Alan,

I don't know why he thought he was from a TN unit. He said the head stone does not have Military ID on it and he is with the military dead (I think) and cemetary records do have him listed. However, I don't think he was in the military unless he was a drummer or hosp. stewart or something like that(maybe came with his dad). I haven't found them in MN military either or why he was in Clinton, Iowa. There are/were a lot of Bell's in Clinton.

Clinton is 50 miles north of Rock Island Arsenal and Clinton was a "gathering" place where different units trained/shipped out of, either up to Galena to join Grant or down to Davenport(QCA). A lot of northern units came through here. A large military hospital is also here. (Haven't found those records yet.) The hospital name that I know is Schiek but haven't found anything under that either. I just remembered....It (hosp) is actually in 1860's in the city of Lyons and not Clinton. I'll let you know what I find!

Thanks again Alan for all of your help. I'll quit going crazy trying to find him in TN!!!!!

Sincerely,
Nancy F.
