Soldiers who became prisoners-of-war should have service files. War Department clerks spent years matching them to service files a century ago. For that reason it makes far more sense to look for a relevant Confederate service record. That's where you will find matching POW records. Unmatched POW rolls are available but are very difficult to decipher.
