Re: Expert of Murfreesboro area cemeteries

Bruce,

Col. John M. Hughes is a relative of mine. I checked with my Aunt who is a direct descendant of the colonel, and lives in the Tullahoma area, and she told me that no one in the family has been able to find his burial site. He was originally from Livingston, Tennessee; moved to Eagleville, Tennessee, and after the war lived outside of Nashville. Family legend had it that he was buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Nasville, but my Aunt was unable to find his grave when she went there. The family legend also said he died at Cornersville, Tennessee. We do know his first wife was buried in Lynchburg, Tennessee around 1835. Hope this may help a little.

John
