You shouldn't require proof of his "Honorable Discharge." The one card in his file in the records of the 44th Consolidated which records the date of his resignation should be enough.

If I were you I would obtain his records found in both the 44th and 44th Consolidated. These may be procured through the service noted in the red enclosed box above. His enlistment occurred before the Conscript Act was enacted.

Also, if you have access to the Supplment to the Offical Records, available at many major libraries, the card in the unit identifcation which records officers of Company K, also record his name as well as the date of his resignation. Perhaps you could ask to obtain a copy of this page when ordering his records.

John A. Dollins, enrolled in Company K, 44th Tennessee Infantry, Consolidated December 1861, promoted 2nd Lieutenant April 18, 1862, resigned April 18, 1863 [Company K was made up of men from Companies B & C, 44th Infantry]

Brevet 2nd Lieutenant John A Dollin [sic] enrolled in Company C, 44th Tennessee Infantry** on December 9, 1861 at Camp Trousdale, present on January 31, 1862 muster

**This company subsequently formed a part of Company K, 44th Regiment Tennessee Infantry (Consolidated).

The 44th Regiment Tennessee Infantry was organized December 16, 1861. About April 18, 1862, it was consolidated into five companies and united with five consolidated companies of the 55th (McKoin's) Regiment Tennessee Infantry and formed the 44th Regiment Tennessee Infantry (Consolidated)
