Re: newspapers
Mr. Martin Most of the info. that I have is from the OR. The date of the raid is early Nov. 1863. Around Nov. 9 to 12. The only unit that I know for sure is Capt. Boykin's Independent Co. of S.C.Cav. It appears that Brig. Gen Robert B. Vance was in charge as he wrote about the action on Nov. 12, 1863 in a letter to his brother Zeb. Vance. The letter is headed "Headquarters, Paint Rock, November 12,1863". The letter starts out...."Dear Brother: I have raided Cocke County and a part of Greene pretty thoroughly...". It appears that Gen. Vance had about "300 troops and some militia". This is about all that I currently have and is why I am hopeing that there is some other info. in some of the Tenn. newspapers. James
