Hello Sharon! I'm sure your children will be even more interested in the story now that you've found a connection directly to Charles. Have you hiked Gregory's Bald (near Cades Cove)? My mother used to hike it once a year with her grandfather in honor of the Gregorys. The Bald is named after Russel Gregory, as he used the top of the Bald during the spring and summer to graze cattle. My mother used to take me on that hike every year after her grandfather died and she would tell me the story of Russel's life and death. Each time I complained about how long the hike was, my mother would remind me that Russel hiked up and down the Bald every single day. It really gave me an appreciation for my ancestors and the difficult yet charming lives they led. I'll attach a link for Gregory's Bald at the bottom of this message. Russell Field is also possibly named after Russel (although this is certainly not confirmed and my mother never mentioned it to me). It might also be worth taking a look at.

I'm sure your children would be interested to talk to other distant relatives and share stories.
