There were around 800 Confederate prisoners held in Terre Haute at the Farrington & Williams Pork House from Wednesday,February 26,1862 when the 1st trainload arrived via St.Louis to at least sometime in June.Many arrived fully armed with knives,pistols and a full supply of ammunition. Obviously they were shortly disarmed. We know the captured units held at Terre Haute were the 26th.Mississippi Infantry,9th Tennessee Cavalry Battalion and possibly a portion of Colonel John C.Brown's Tennessee Brigade(as stated by Colonel Brown to the Terre Haute newspaper of Feb 28 when the trains carrying the captured Donelson officers passed thru to Columbus).From these officers,it was also reported that the step brother of General Felix Zollicoffer was held at Terre Haute.
