There is a relatively new book on John Crawford Vaughn, "The Last Confederate General, John C. Vaughn and his East Tennessee Cavalry," Larry Gordon, Zenith Press, 2009.

On page 35 we find: "Elzey's casualties were light. Vaughn's regiment, the 3rd Tennessee, lost only one man killed and five wounded. (30)"

(30) Vaughn, Letter to "Miss Kate."

Vaughn, John C. Letter to "Miss Kat." Fairfax Court House, Virginia, 29 July 1861. Copy at Manassas National Battlefield Park, National Park Service. Copy also at appendix C.

Appendix C. The letter only states one killed, five wounded which included Capt. William Morelock, Co. F, wounded in the neck.

I'm still waiting access to my microfilm rolls.
