Re: WAUL'S TX LEGION AND OTHER TX UNITS AT CORINTH

See the Texas Newspaper Project at

http://www.cah.utexas.edu/newspapers/tnp.html

This site provides the issues and dates available. You can use the interlibrary loan system to obtain microfilm copies. There are several libraries in Texas with microfilm copies and so you are not restricted to borrowing from the University of Texas but their site is very useful for determining what issues to search.

I have read every Texas civil war newspaper available. For 1862 you will find the most complete sets are the Austin and Houston papers. There is very little original material in the Dallas papers most of the articles were copied from the Austin and Houston.

You will also want to take note of the areas from which the companies in Waul’s legions was recruited and check the local papers. Occasionally unique materials such as a letter from a local boy will be published that the major papers did not.
