Re: Houston Daily Telegraph (Jenkins Ferry casuali

Jane,

Many thanks. I did get the casualty lists from the 28th Texas Cav. from your book "Peculiar Honor." I wasn't sure if just the 28th was in the May 16 issue or if more units were also listed. (By the way I enjoyed "Peculair Honor" very much; nice work.)

I do have Barr's article somewhere in my research files. Does he list individual soldier's names or just aggregate casualties from all the units?

The reason I ask is that I am transcribing Dr. Henry M. Dye's medical case book and he describes his treatment of over 80 Texans from Walker's Division that were wounded at the battle of Jenkins Ferry. His entries are very detailed and he also provides a sketch of each case. Several members of the 28th are described, a couple of which are not listed in Peculiar Honor.

If I give you the names of the 2 or 3 of patients from the 28th not listed, do you think you could provide a little assistance in tracking them down. I do not have access to the Compiled Service Records of the Texans.

Many thanks,

Bill
