Re: Bowie Grays
In Response To: Bowie Grays ()

The company known as the "Bowie Grays" is supposed to be mentioned in the W.W. Parks Papers at the University of Texas Archives. I have searched these papers, but could not find any reference to the "Bowie Grays". Captain W.J. Hays appears to have been too old for Confederate service. I have not been able to locate a service record for him. If the "Bowie Grays" was ever mustered into the Confederate Army, it must have been under a different captain.

There was also a company from Bowie County known as the "Dark Corner Guards" but I have not been able to determine if it ever joined the Confederate Army.
